Turntables & Transfer Tables

BBM turntables are custom-designed and manufactured to meet specific capacity and length requirements. The Turntables are built in modular steel sections, allowing for a quick and reliable assembly of the turntable at the jobsite, as well as for better control of the overall equipment quality. The number of motor driven trucks will be determined by the turntable length and capacity. Each drive shall feature a direct drive gearmotor unit complete with an integral brake assembly for added stopping and holding power. Automatic wheel chocks and rotation locking devices are available, as well as an open or enclosed operator controls area.

BBM designs and manufactures each Transfer Table to meet the specific capacity and length requirements the customer needs. A Transfer Table is a length of rail that traverses a locomotive or rail car to any number of parallel tracks. A single track (or more) can feed one end of the Transfer Table and the locomotive or rail car can be transferred on to many other tracks on the opposite end of the pit, into a locomotive or rail car repair facility.

The amount of trucks and drives for the Transfer Table depend on the capacity and length required. These drives utilize variable speed motors for smooth start and stop functions, as well as quiet operation. Optional features include automatic wheel chocks, track alignment locking mechanisms, enclosed operator stations (cabs), multiple walkways, and more.

Locomotive turntable

Railcar Transfer Table

BBM designs and manufactures each transfer table to meet the specific capacity and length requirements for your particular application. A transfer table is a length of rail that traverses a locomotive or railcar to any number of parallel tracks. A single track (or more) can feed one end of the transfer table and the locomotive or rail car can be transferred onto many other tracks on the opposite end of the pit, into a locomotive or rail car repair facility.

Truck Turntable

BBM truck turntables are used for transferring rail truck (bogie) assemblies from a service track to other tracks within a maintenance facility. The heavy-duty center bearing design of the truck turntable allows a single person to rotate the truck assemblies smoothly. Vertical supports that are mounted in the equipment pit, provide additional structural support for the turntable, to minimize deflection of the structure during rail vehicle crosses over. BBM turntables are available in diameters ranging from 5.5’ to 12’ and can be configured to rotate automatically or manually using a telescoping push bar.

Wheel-set Turntable

When intersecting tracks exist in a wheel shop or maintenance facility, a turntable is a fast and effective method for switching a wheel-set to the adjacent track without the use of a forklift or an overhead crane. BBM wheel-set turntables are available in manual rotation and locking configurations as well as motorized versions with automatic rotation and locking systems.
